Biography

John Goldrust’s vision for an authentic song-based music, has led him to initiate solo and collaborative music projects in cities across the UK

A journey of adventure through time and space, genre and style, friendship and relationship – documented through the medium of song

From penning his first complete song at 16, while playing in cover bands at school in Oxford and then at Edinburgh University, John already felt his true vocation lay in being a songwriter of a ‘vernacular’ style. It was for this reason he transferred to Manchester University, only to then discover the Electronic Dance Music scene and DJ production music, so beginning a journey of discovery into the abstract nature of music itself, both in the medium of song and in the language of music, inspired by the abstract maths he was studying in the classroom.

John has relentlessly sought to capture the essence of life’s experiences, meaning and mysteries, through the powerful medium of song and music.

Although self-sufficient as a solo performer, John has placed great importance in a shared vision for the creation of authentic music, collaborating in musical partnerships and forming bands in cities across the UK, including Oxford, Edinburgh, Manchester, Bristol and Brighton. Sometimes lasting only a few months in their initial incarnation and often going down in flames, ‘like a phoenix from a fire’ new projects have emerged to take their place, which have often stood the test of time, occasionally achieving a local or wider significance.

That which has value but cannot be nailed down, is often times lost - as if Gold were being turned to rust.
